Justpoint raises $95M to tackle the toxic exposure epidemic with AI

Every day, millions of Americans put their trust in the products they consume, believing them to be safe for themselves and their families. Yet, harmful, man-made substances have become the number one cause of death in America, responsible for over 36% of cancers, 79% of heart attacks, and 90% of liver damage cases. While plenty of regulations exist to protect consumers, enforcement often comes too late—after years or even decades of damage has been done.

Today, we're proud to announce that SignalFire is leading Justpoint's $45 million Series A to transform consumer protection with AI by exposing hidden dangers in products and pharmaceuticals. (Justpoint has also raised another $50 million from a credit line.)

The hidden crisis of toxic exposure: Cancer cases are rising at alarming rates

Cancer cases are rising at an alarming rate

‎The statistics are staggering, but they only tell part of the story. For Justpoint CEO Victor Bornstein, this mission is personal. His uncle fell ill after mining companies contaminated his drinking water supply—one of countless examples of harmful chemical exposure before action was taken.

Other notorious cases include:

  • Purdue Pharma marketing opioids as "less addictive" for over two decades.
  • PFAS or "forever chemicals" polluting the water supply for 95 million people in the U.S. who draw water from the nation’s aquifers.
  • Microplastics accumulating in our bodies for decades before detection.
  • A dramatic rise in early-onset colon cancer linked to environmental factors.

The core problems Justpoint is seeking to solve:

  1. The current system isn't working fast enough: Harmful products fly under the radar for years or decades, and regulations have struggled to keep pace with corporate negligence.
  2. Fragmented and slow regulatory processes: By the time traditional research and regulatory processes identify a harmful substance, thousands or even millions of people may have already been affected.
  3. Justice delayed is justice denied: Many victims fail to receive compensation for the medical harm they’ve suffered from medication side effects, defective products, or toxic materials.

Through AI and collective action, Justpoint is doubling down on a bold mission: uncovering the hidden dangers in our consumer and healthcare systems faster than ever before, and holding bad actors accountable.

The Justpoint solution: AI meets consumer protection

Justpoint is transforming this landscape by applying cutting-edge AI to analyze billions of medical data points to detect harmful chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and consumer products, years before traditional methods are able to. The current system is reactive when it should be proactive, and Justpoint flips that script.

By conducting retrospective epidemiological studies at an unprecedented scale, their proprietary models can:

  • Extract data and analyze medical histories
  • Create hundreds of micro-cohorts for each substance to account for confounding factors
  • Identify causation faster than traditional regulatory bodies
  • Recreate clinical events and validate findings through rigorous scientific review

The company has already flagged 15 drugs that could potentially cause more adverse events than those reported to the FDA. (These findings are currently undergoing validation.) The impact? When harmful substances are confirmed, Justpoint works with its legal arm to initiate litigation that compensates victims and creates financial incentives for companies to remove dangerous products from the market.

This means safer products, faster regulatory responses, and a legal system that proactively protects consumers. Justpoint is building unprecedented capabilities to detect harmful substances early and mobilize the legal system to drive change.

Justpoint's approach is already delivering tangible results. According to their team, early wins include:

  • Processing over 1,000 claims daily
  • Helping victims recover an average of $355,000 per settlement
  • Detecting dangers in Oxbryta 21 months before its withdrawal

‎The founding team: Deep expertise meets personal mission

Justpoint’s team brings a rare combination of AI, healthtech, biotech, and legal expertise. But it’s more than experience—they’re personally driven by their mission to protect consumers at scale.

Their uniquely qualified founding team includes:

  • Victor Bornstein, CEO and co-founder, who brings deep scientific expertise as a former assistant professor at Mount Sinai's Icahn School of Medicine where he earned his PhD in biomedical sciences. His personal connection to toxic exposure drives the company's mission.
  • Sashko Zakharchuk, CTO and co-founder, who has been building cutting-edge AI models since 2013. He contributed to the foundational AI powering Google Search and also trained hundreds of Google engineers. He teaches courses on AI at one of Eastern Europe’s top universities. Sashko’s technical expertise is foundational to Justpoint’s advanced algorithmic capabilities.
  • Lauren Miller, VP of Litigation, who brings extensive mass tort litigation and unparalleled legal expertise. She has played a leadership role in mass tort cases that achieved significant settlements. Lauren served as co-chair of the Science and Experts Committee in the $1.1 billion CPAP case settlement. She was also appointed to the Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee in the Zantac litigation, where she also served on multiple subcommittees.

With their combined backgrounds, we believe the team has the perfect founder-market fit to address consumer safety and systemic harm.

‎Why we invested: Using AI to tackling the leading causes of death

Justpoint’s vision—a world where consumers can trust that products on store shelves won't harm them or their families—is both ambitious and achievable. Their team is building the technological infrastructure to make it a reality.

Justpoint embodies everything we look for in a transformative company:

  • A massive, underserved market ripe for disruption
  • Proprietary technology and datasets that create clear competitive advantages
  • A mission-driven team with unique capabilities to execute
  • Strong unit economics and path to profitability
  • Data network effects that strengthen over time

Justpoint’s data flywheel advantage creates a defensible moat, and ensures that the company is compounding its expertise and defensibility with every case:

  • Advanced AI models trained on medical, legal, and scientific data sources: By leveraging large language models (LLMs), billions of medical records, plaintiff claims, adverse events, and scientific research reports, Justpoint’s algorithms predict harm years before regulatory bodies like the FDA.
  • Continuous learning: With every case Justpoint handles, it acquires new data that improves detection accuracy and litigation outcomes.
  • Market leadership: By prioritizing consumer safety and empowering consumers to take action through new mass tort litigations, Justpoint is creating a new market that we have not seen before.

This cycle creates what we believe to be a virtuous loop: earlier detection leads to higher settlements, generating more plaintiffs and proprietary data to fuel Justpoint’s AI—ultimately leading to amplified market share.

Building a future without hidden hazards

Imagine a world where every product on the shelf is truly safe—not just assumed to be. This isn’t just about lawsuits; it’s about deterrence. When corporations know that unsafe products will be detected quickly and litigated effectively, they will be forced to prioritize safety from the start.

We’re thrilled to partner with Justpoint on their journey to make the world safer and fairer. Our investment reflects confidence in Justpoint’s business fundamentals and mission, but most importantly, we see a virtuous future where AI rewires our society’s approach to accountability and safety.
